A BODY, A HOME

2017, Digital Photographs and Audio.

Completed through the More Art Engaging Artists Residency.

A Body, A Home uses photography and sound to document the experiences of Brooklyn residents dealing with the effects of gentrification: landlord abuse, police harassment, eviction, and the emotional impacts of the loss of home. Each photograph is paired with an interview.

Residents, Jon and Patrice, are members of the Crown Heights Tenant Union, a community-based organization that engages in tenants' rights and housing justice in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

Patrice

Patrice

Through landlord intimidation, unlawful eviction, and property seizure, Patrice was kicked out of her home in Brooklyn, NY to make way for university student housing. Currently, she is houseless fighting to get her home and property back in court.

Jon

Jon

After consistent landlord harassment, Jon along with other tenants in his apartment building organized to not only take his landlord to court, but more importantly, create a better and more just housing situation for all.
