Embodied is a photography series that centers Queer and Trans People of Color as they use ritual, movement, and reenactment to process grief. Through building trust over time, the collaborative project opens space for participants to physically embody a formative experience of trauma— illness, familial loss, social violence— using performance. The process seeks to be a catharsis for the participants and the photographs act as testimonies to their stories. Embodied draws from ancestral and non-western traditions that give importance to storytelling, dance, and community care as holistic approaches to healing.
